Review: MAC Pro Longwear Foundation

I'm still quite a newbie in the world of high-end foundation, having only tried 3 different kinds so far. Of these include MACs Studio Fix, Kat Von Ds Lock It, and Tartes 12 Hour Amazonian Clay (which I'm not a fan of), so I figured why not test out a new subject!

MACs Studio Fix in NC20 was much to dark for me but was a great yellow tone, and though I love my Kat Von D for its longevity, I find its too pink for me even in the yellow shade range, so I really wanted to find a happy medium between the two. I recently came across MACs Pro Longwear foundation and after reading many reviews, it seemed to be an awesome candidate for my predicament.

I bought my Pro Long Wear in the shade NC15 which even still is slightly too dark for my skin tone when worn alone, but I mix it with just a tiny drop of Elfs Shimmering Facial Whip in Spotlight that lightens it up just enough to become a noticeable improvement (the highlighting cream doesn't have any effects in artificial light but leaves a beautiful, glowy sheen to the skin in sunlight!).

Fresh clean face, only thing applied thus far is Neutrogenas Rapid Clear Toner

Annnd finally, this is after a full day of college, including walking home and walking to my bus stop, adding up to a total of about 9 hours. (and of course, I have hair dye in my hair lol)
--------

As you can see, by the end of 9 hours the foundation is still fully intact, with the biggest signs of wear being on my forehead and nose with a bit of shininess. And that coverage? Yeah, no concealer necessary.

Review:

To start, I'll just say I love this foundation. It's truly a perfect compromise between my problems with Studio Fix and Kat Von D's foundation, with both a perfect yellow tone and the great staying power I was looking for.

Staying power is one of the most important features for me in a foundation, and Pro Longwear definitely lives up to its name in that department. As a student and part time worker, I frequently need to leave my makeup on for the entire day (even as long as 15 hours some nights), so I need something that will really last and no kidding, this stuff really doesn't budge! It looks great all day and I don't notice any major break down throughout the day, even on areas I'm prone to it with such as my nose and chin (plus, still no breakouts!).

Then we come to the coverage. Before buying this, I saw a ton of other blogs claiming that this foundation was a medium to buildable coverage, but I personally find that on my pretty clear skin lately, this acts as nearly full coverage with one coat alone, allowing me to skip my concealer routine except on days when my under eyes are particularly bad. Needless to say it definitely is still buildable though for those that need it.

Overall, this is my new go-to foundation for all of its amazing features, making it a perfect fit for my life. I've been wearing it nearly everyday for around 3 weeks now and still haven't come across a single con besides perhaps the price. This foundation easily lasts throughout my busy day with no touch-ups necessary, feels extremely lightweight on the skin, and has the usual great selection of shades from MAC we've all come to expect. Did I mention it has a built in pump too? This foundation really does have it all.

  1. Good review. I'm a big fan of this foundation too. Especially applied with a beauty blender.

    1. I'm glad you like it as well! It's one of the foundations from MAC I hear about less frequently so I wasn't sure of everyone else's take on it. So far I've only used a stipple brush to apply it but you really can't ever go wrong with the beauty blender!
