Play! by Sephora | May 2016 Unboxing

Sephora Play! Monthly Subscription Box | $10+ tax every month

After months upon months of being on the waitlist, and honestly kind of forgetting all about it, I randomly got an email a month or so ago saying that I had finally made it onto the mailing list for Sephoras new monthly subscription box, Play!

The service is $10 a month where you receive 5 deluxe samples and a bonus perfume sample from an array of products sold at Sephora, which seems like a pretty great deal since you'll always have a general idea of what brands you'll be getting from (unlike say a box like Ipsy, where it's generally less known indie brands). Let's dive into my first unboxing for the May 2016 box, where you'll get my first thoughts and impressions on what I think about the service so far!

This month's theme was Forces of Nature, and I received:

Briogeo | Don't Despair, Repair! Deep Conditioning Mask // Full Size: $36.00
This is the only brand in the box that I had never heard of before, but then again I've mentioned many times that hair stuff is not my forte. I do enjoy deep conditioning masks though since my hair always seems to feel rather damaged (it's been getting much better lately woo woo), so I didn't mind getting this in the box. It made my hair feel great after using it, but probably not something I would purchase for the price.

Korres | Wild Rose Advanced Brightening Sleeping Facial // Full Size: $48.00
I've been pretty into skincare lately since I still haven't found a routine I like yet, and I've always been super interested in trying out Korres products. I really love the feel of this cream at night time, and love that it has a bunch of good for your skin ingredients. It's meant to brighten uneven skintone and address texture issues overtime, but since this is just a sample I haven't noticed anything major while using it.

Origins | Maskimizer Skin-Optimizing Mask Primer + 2 Mask Samples // Full Size: $22.00
As a brand I love Origins, but for products like this its always a bit hard to tell how effective they actually are since this is meant to be a primer you spritz on your face before applying a face mask. I love the idea of it, but I can't really say its something I feel I'd need in my skincare routine!

Bite Beauty | Amuse Bouche Lipstick in Kimchi // Full Size: $26.00
Bite Beauty has been on my 'wanting to try' list for an insane amount of time, and while I super appreciate Sephora putting some fun colors in the box, I'm a bit sad this bright pink won't be getting a ton of wear from me haha. It's a great Summer shade though, and I could see it looking beautiful on people who are used to bright lip colors like this.

Tarte | Tarteist Lip Crayon in Latergram // Full Size $18.00
On the contrary to the lipstick color this month, Tartes Latergram lip pencil is a nudey mauve shade, which I quite like the formula of. It's a twist up pencil with a creamy, smooth application as a prep for a lipstick of your choosing. Since I'm always wearing nudes, this will get a lot of use from me.

Bonus Perfume Sample / Atelier Cologne | Orange Sanguine Perfume // Full Size: $120.00
This is a very citrusy, zesty perfume that smells largely of blood orange and grapefruit to me. I've been really into deep, musky scents like Patchouli lately, but I actually don't mind this, especially for the coming Summer months!

Some of my favorite things about this box is getting to try products before I buy them, and getting a feel for a brand that I may have never purchased from before. It also lets me see which types of products I like and which ones I either don't need or weren't too fond of, so I don't have to waste money on a full size version first.

Some things I don't like so far are that the sizes are quite small it seems, with some of the products only getting 2 or 3 uses before being finished up. Since these are deluxe samples that's expected though, and works out to each product being about 2 bucks each if that's something you're okay with spending. Since these are all going to be high-end brands, I think it's reasonable.

For my overall opinion, so far I'm liking this Sephora Play! service. I like the variety of products and brands they include, and that I get to try from brands I never had the money or interest in purchasing from before.

Have you joined the Play! subscription service yet? If so, what are your first thoughts?
